[TMI] M'Bop
I keep saying that Language Log is one of my favorite blogs, but truth is, not since I found myself stuck in Axiomatic Set Theory back in freshman year of college have I been made to feel so existential. Recently, working from the authoritative list of Homer Simpson's use of the particle "Mmm...", Language Log has come up with the most common number of M's necessary for saying "Mmm..." (by googling m* donuts, beer and chocolate): 3 M's are preferred, with 4 M's a close second. Language Log has also constructed a histogram for the "homeric objects of desire": chocolate and beer; followed by donut; followed by forbidden donut, sprinkles, sacrilicious, snouts, free goo, and invisible cola; and so on. I feel like a Rain Man groupie here. (BTW, when you look up Hoffman in IMDb, the only name that pops up is Al Hoffman, composer for the Ocean's Eleven remake. You have to request more names to get Dustin. I guess this is payback for The Fokkers.)
